In 1980, my tutor at the Erasmus University, Prof. Dr. H.C. Kuiler, retired from the Royal Military Academy in Breda, Netherlands (Koninklijke Militaire Academie). For many years he had lectured transport economics to future officers. On short notice, I was invited by the KMA to fill a short term interim period, allowing the Academy to search for a qualified person to take over on a permanent basis. In the end, the interim position lasted almost seven years. This meant that I drove from Brussels to Breda very early every Monday morning for my lectures which started at 08.00 and ended at 10.00 am. Additionally, quite often, I was asked to chair exam committees during which candidates had to answer extremely diversified military related questions. It was a very interesting and rewarding time for me.
